# Charging

This section provides information on how to charge the battery as well as safety precautions before and during a charge cycle.

**How to charge**

Connect the battery to an appropriate 12S lithium battery charger capable of balance charging and follow the charger manufacturer’s instructions.

**Charging Safety**

* Don’t charge the battery when it is outside the safe charging temperature range.
* Don’t charge the battery with current above the maximum charging current.
* Don’t overcharge any cell past the maximum cell voltage.
* If any cell is below 3V but above 2.5V, see the subsection “Recovery Mode.”
* If any cell goes below 2.5V, the battery will never allow itself to be charged again.

**Charge Denial**

The battery will not allow itself to be charged if:

* The battery is outside the safe charging temperature range.
* Any cell voltage is above the maximum cell voltage (plus a small buffer).
* Any cell voltage goes below 2.5V (charge denial is permanently active).
* Any cell voltage is below 3V and "Recovery Mode" current was exceeded (see next section for details).

**Recovery Mode**

When any cell gets below 3V, the battery goes into Recovery Mode. In this mode, charging can only be done at 1.7A or less. Charging with more current will cause Charge Denial to activate. Charge Denial will then stay activated until the button is pressed (after which charging can resume). Recovery Mode ends when all cells are above 3.5V.

If any cell gets below 2.5V, the battery will permanently deny charge.
