# Using the Battery with QGroundControl and PX4

These instructions are for using QGroundControl with a flight controller running PX4. These instructions assume the user has knowledge about using QGroundControl and PX4.

**Setup**

Ensure that your flight controller is connected to the battery over CAN.

Open QGroundControl and connect to your flight controller.

Click the Q icon in the upper left and then click “Vehicle Configuration” > “Parameters” and set the following parameters:

* Set UAVCAN\_ENABLE to 2 (“Sensors Automatic Config”) and reboot your flight controller. *NOTE:* Some users may need a different setting for their setup.
* Set UAVCAN\_SUB\_BAT to 1 (“Raw data”) and reboot your flight controller.

You will now see battery information on the fly view toolbar.

*NOTE:* A way to see some additional information is to click the Q icon and go to “Analyze Tools” > “MAVLink Inspector” > “BATTERY\_STATUS.”

For safety, be sure to also configure the battery-related parameters and settings as needed according to QGroundControl and PX4 documentation. If you click the Q icon and go to “Vehicle Configuration” > “Safety,” you can configure the drone to automatically land or return when the battery gets to a certain state of charge.

**Setting Parameters**

This battery is not currently compatible with setting parameters in QGroundControl.

**Updating Firmware**

Battery firmware cannot be upgraded from QGroundControl.
