# Manage Custom Data Fields

Custom data fields are another way that someone can help organize your battery inventory. These custom fields, when added, will show up in all Views as columns that you assign to them. If you create a custom field after an old View has been made you will need to go in and manually add that column to that View in order to see it.

### Text

This custom field is fairly self explanatory, it is reserved for single line item text inputs that don't require too much explanation. Simple confirmations, single or few word notes that can be easily added or replicated to multiple batteries that may be pertinent to other members in the organization.

### Multiline

Multiline is the same idea behind a "text" custom field except you may require multiple lines of text to explain it. An example might be a set of batteries involved in a crash, a single line field using "text" might just label them as "hands off" or you can include a multiline to scribe "DO NOT USE, Involved in accident/incident on XX/XX/XX, requires further testing to verify state of health". It gives both a good explanation and reminder to battery managers or maintenance personnel that these batteries need to be looked at ASAP.

### Number

Number values are when you want the ability for someone to input only numbers and no text into a field to mitigate any confusion or ordering. As well, since organization is typically done *alphabetically* having number fields in where you'd want them allow you to sort data fields *numerically* as you would want to intend to.

### Boolean

Boolean is as you would expect with just true or false statement. Simply put if you have a simple "yes or no" input for a battery then having this can simplify that so there are no second guesses.
